Encore!
It was a great day of warm up and cool down on the lunge and long lines. But first we worked through a phobia for fly spray. We had this problem with the rasp when Encore! experienced her first hoof trim. It took a long time for her to accept the rasp. Now, surprisingly, she has a phobia for the sprayer that mists the air around her. These are the only two things that have troubled her. Everything else is business as usual. In all my years of horses, I’ve never had a horse with such strong opinions. Hopefully, this kind of stubbornness will work in her favor when she begins to work for a living. She’ll have the determination to go the distance.
Meanwhile, we’ll continue our routine of lunge, longline and ride. Like I said she’s all get up and go. For me it’s important to ease through and quietly bring her into a state of mind that is calm and enjoys adventure.
It’s an art to teach a young horse to go willingly into world. Encore! is my encore. I’m taking it slow and deliberate to keep us safe and happy.
