It’s raining. Plenty of time to consider the future for Encore!
Watching dressage videos and feeling restless, I realize Encore! and I are gypsies to the core. Gypsies in our desire to feel our feet moving in the direction of open space, open vistas, wrapped in fresh air and drenched in sunshine. When I imagine the road together six months ahead, I see us tramping around hills and beaches without a white rail in sight and no letters to map our movements. It’s an inner bond we share. I watch her stand at the fence of her roomy paddock and gaze into the distance. A call of the wilderness seems to be pulling on us both. We are blue sky not blue ribbon. We are ride-the-wild types. We hear the rolling clicks of the castanets and the erratic beat of the drum. Our skin tingles with the distant sound of Spanish dancers with their nail studded heels striking the floor with a range of moods that shout Olé and whisper into the crackling air vibrating off clapping hands. We are bound together by affection for adventure. Gypsies.
